» pink101 - Ruth Benedict

.
I remember when I first was introduced to her work along with Margaret Meade's.
.
A really good place to get our eyes opened.
.
I think, anyway.

.
What is there that claims cultural relativism has all cultures equal in value to each other?
.
As I consider it, that seems to be a misrepresentation.
.
Am I wrong?

In response to Does Cultural Relativism Claim posted by pink101:

Often cultural relativists take the point of relativism to imply a sort of prima facie equality. What I mean by that is that the suggestion is that the cultures can't really be compared and so are (on the face of things) equal. This is why relativism is supposed to support tolerance, which I will discuss in an article coming soon. Equal in value here just means no culture can be seen as superior...they are simply different.

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
.
I definitely believe our culture is superior to one in which head hunting is seen as being the affirmation of a person's masculinity. But, I am also able to see that there are activities in our culture that may equate to head hunting for the affirmation of some person's masculinity.
.
Problem with our culture is that we do not want to be introspective about our down fallings.
.
We should be able to discuss cultural values objectively.
