Interesting thoughts, Pink. I happen to have studied a great deal of existentialism, and you are pretty much right on the money with that face to face with yourself paragraph. That's the existential crisis. It's when we realize the enormity of our own existence, of the fact that we must choose ourselves. It's when we realize we look out ourselves, naked, unsheltered by the masks and identities we put up as part of a community. It's when we have a chance to create our own lives.

I'm sure of it. Thanks for you response.
.
I was reminded of the movie, Altered States, after I wrote that post.
.
I went on line and found a source for the DVD and ordered it.
.
If I recall, the movies is about such an encounter with the self in a very abstract way.
.
I saw the movie at least 22 or so years ago and just remembered it.

There's a part in the movie that is too difficult to portray in any other way so it gets a little out of hand. But, otherwise, it's a very good experience and it deals with a variety of philosophical ideas including the Primal Scream and the Trauma of Birth.

Sounds interesting. Philosophical ideas are often very hard to put in movie format. There's a tendency to have unrealistic dialog convey the ideas. Plus, movies have to cater to a wide audience, which sometimes waters down the thoughts. I'm glad this one turned out so well.
