- Bhagavad Gita
The beauty of the Gita is that you see in it what you need to see. And since your needs change constantly you see something different everytime you read it.
I am following a chronological order in my articles on Hinduism. It will be quite a while before I reach the stage of writing on the Gita. Time will tell how those articles shape up.

Yes, I was very hesitant to write this article, but I happen to be teaching the Gita right now. Since it is an intro to phil. class, I try to focus on the philosophy of karma yoga, the path of selfless service through action. I try to look at how the Gita teaches us that distinctions lead to anger and jealousy and all the other negative emotions.
But as you say, there are LOTS of ways to interpret the work. Ghandi thought it was a pacifist work, while the more orthodox view is that the Gita teaches war for warriors (literal war). Both interpretations seem equally likely and have support from the text. A VERY tricky work.
