This is supposed to get a laugh out of you.

What's the sense of having a good mind if we don't use it?

Not upset with you at all, Pink. happy
.
I was just discussing politics over dinner with my hubby, and he remarked that I've gotten 'rather radical' in my old age with 'all this crazy talk about impeachment'. Now ~that~ made me laugh out loud.
.
So I dug out some old pics of me in the 60s at protest rallies and marches. (Finding those took some digging!)
.
Imagine!... we're still learning stuff about each other after all these years. happy

I see that political promo ad for one of the cable channels--a cartoon elephant and a cartoon donkey walking away from the camera. Is that you and your husband?
.
I used to be the Republican (I campaigned for Goldwater) and my wife and her whole family were Democrats. One brother-in-law worked directly under Walter Reuther as an international representative. Damn communists!! heh heh heh. I've sure done a one eighty--and then some. I did union organizing for the building trades. I have a nephew who is president of one of Delphi's UAW union locals. Another one is president the brick layer's union in the Detroit area. I am the black sheep of my Christian Fundamentalist family most of whom are Baptists of one group or another. They have a hard time even saying the word, Democrat, without having a fit and gasping in cardiac arrest. happy It's fun to get their goat. I've watched them develop into who they are for at least 67 years of my life ever since I was 8 years old. It's quite an education.

It's about time.
.
Ya think? happy We didn't discuss politics very often before because he'd hold a grudge for days if I criticized his Republican heroes. You know the rules of polite conversation... no talk of politics, religion, or sex. Well, I'm breaking all those rules now cuz I no longer care if he gets annoyed. My youthful 'in-your-face' attitude has returned - and I'm wearing him down. Tee hee.
.
Is that you and your husband?
.
Tee hee. That surely has been us in the past. But over the last year or so, my elephant hubby's trunk has shrunk and he's sprouted a donkey tail. We used to laugh about cancelling out each other's votes all the time. He'd vote Rep, I'd frequently vote Dem. One year, we agreed not to bother voting - since we usually cancelled each other anyway. Well, on the sly, I went out to vote. Who did I find in line at the polling place? Ha! Boy, did we laugh.
.
My parents and siblings were all Dems. My brothers and sisters still are. It's the Chicago labor union party. I am the black sheep of my family as well. They're preachy Catholics and I'm what they politely call 'fallen away'. They still have hope for me though. They flood my email with sentimental God stuff almost daily. I get even though. I send them long jokes.

There is absolutely nothing like being liberated. I am happy for you and for your descendents who will eventually benefit from your courage. Congratulations! Good for you!
.
And, it is the TRUTH that liberates us. We, as a nation, have become a society of delusional fools stumble bumbling around in the dark holding on to worn out mythologies about what is and what is not. In the present situation, we are being skewered as we lap at the feet of elitists who have convinced us that the economy is based on the stock mariket and that Americans won't do the work being done by immigrants and that we're winning the war against terrorism. What unadulterated bull shit! These are the THREE MAJOR LIES that the Republican Party is spoon feeding those who are still deluded among us.
.
We are up against it on Tuesday.

We really need to watch this before we vote tomorrow. It's about an hour... make some coffee. The 'experts' in the intelligence community speak out.

I watched C-span this morning for a short while and was curious about the call ins.
.
That, along with some other information off the media, seems to show that there is a growing anger in the American psyche and that it is appraoching the danger point.
.
I'm concerned that, if the Republicans should win in today's elections, the underlying and seething anger may surface in a deadly serious way. Maybe explosive. I cannot forget Kent State and the events that exploded during the Viet Nam debacle. I don't think we can ever safely forget that America is an experiment in self governance. We are being challenged by the authoritarians who move among us with their hatreds and drives for personal power and dominance.
.
People only put up with so much crap from their leaders and--then--WHAM!! So, in an other sense, we live in exciting times where the mettle of the human psyche is being heavily tested. Where will YOU stand if things go awry?
.
Let's hope we are soon to be on the road toward healing the terrible wounds from which we are now suffering. American blood is spilling in the streets of Iraq and for what reason? Anyone got any kind of an honest answer at all?
.

Interesting thought, Pink. There does seem to be a lot of anger, some of which (perhaps much of which!) is starting to get a bit dangerous. I don't like that tendency, personally, but it comes from a lot of sources, including talk radio. BOTH sides are pretty ugly in how they present the other side, acting as if the other side is full of literal criminals and traitors, hoping to literally destroy our country.

That breeds an incredibly dangerous atmosphere.

Right, it breeds great danger; but, America was born in such danger.
.
One thing I have not seen in the media as a question about what motivates people to vote is the question about our liberties and the Constitution.
.
It seems to me, even though a lot of people don't think too deeply in this area, that the idea of a move toward an imposing big brother might be bothering a large percentage of Americans. I know that it is bothering me.
.
I think "Philosophy" is a good place for such discussions. We should be concerned about fascism. Anyone who understands it must be aware of its dangerous rise in political thought. Fascism and bi-nationalism--two major political philosophies on the rise.
